United Asian American Council

The United Asian American Council (UAAC) was organized to bring programs, support, and social events to the Asian American population. It was organized to become the unifying agent of all Asian Americans on campus by taking responsibility for progamming social, cultural, and educational programs for Asian American students.

The objectives of the United Asian American Council are as follows :

1) Serving the needs of the Asian American students through providing an environment of academic and emotional support, facilitating the develpment of leadership skills, and promoting social interactions and working alliances.

2) Offering educational and social programs for Asian Americans and the Southern Illinois University community to facilitate cultural awareness, interactions, understanding, and mutual respect among the student groups.

FAQ

1) What are the benefits for joining the UAAC?
-The UAAC can help develop an easy transition to the college lifestyle with members who will do their best to be of help in any way possible to others. -You will gain access to member only events.

2) What does the UAAC do for the campus and for members?
-We are the main contributors for the Multi-Cultural Organization's (MCO) Asian Awareness Month in April. - Social outings and events in a friendly environment to develop a sense of unity amongst members.

3) How would I join the UAAC?
- Contact any members of the UAAC for help acquiring information to join or you can show up at one of the general meetings and somebody can help you there.

4) Is there a membership fee?
-Yes, there is a very small membership due to join. To join for a year (Fall & Spring semesters) it will be $10. If you want to join in the Spring semester, the membership dues will be $5.

6) How do I get to the office?
Take the elevator or the stairs by the Information Desk at the Student Center (the Information Desk is near the cross section located at McDonald's). From there, go down one floor to the basement. The office straight ahead past the study lounge is the UAAC office.
